B The Artist is a singer, rapper, songwriter and music producer born in Los Angeles, CA to a Jamaican mother and American father. As a child she would hear Reggae music, The Isley Brothers and Prince playing throughout the house. Artists like Stevie Wonder and George Michael would become some of her favorites as well. She would discover more music growing up that eventually inspired her own style like Anita Baker and Queen Latifah.
B The Artist says her name comes from some aspects of her birth name combined with the words "The Artist" as it defines her as a total creative. Her debut single "You MuthaFucka" is a bold statement out the gate. The song is based on not getting what you give out of any relationship whether it be romantic, friendship or business. When asked if the song was created from personal experience B The Artist said "Its from everyones personal experience. My point is regardless of how things happen, whether its your fault or someone else's, choose your happy, its the only way to evolve and survive as a human being."
In the current climate of women's rights, equal pay and even recognition of female songwriters and producers in the music industry B The Artist says, "Its about time! How we come in this world shouldn't limit us to certain tasks. Besides us women always make things better. Home cooked meals with 3 ingredients?...That's real close to Jesus work!"
When asked what her musical aspirations and goals are B The Artist says "I want to share my narrative of love, understanding, and all the human emotions we experience as we see life now. The positive is promoted but “negative” has its role in how we decide what we want out of life so lets find the value in it all. That's what I hope to express in my music.
